Feel the Wind
In the month of May, the Church around the world gathers to celebrate Pentecost, the day we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the Church itself. Acts tells us that on that day there was a sound like the rush of a violent wind, filling the house where the disciples were gathered. Something unseen, yet unmistakable. Something powerful, lifegiving, and transforming.
Wind is like that. You can’t see it, but you know when it’s present. You feel it on your face. You see its effects in the bending of branches, the movement of clouds, the turning of sails. Pentecost invites us to ask: where do we feel the wind of God’s Spirit moving among us today?
The Holy Spirit did not come simply to amaze the disciples. The Spirit came to push them outward—to give them courage, to shape them into a community, and to send them into the world with good news. That same Spirit continues to move, still breathing life into the Church, still calling us to listen, to love, and to serve with open hearts.
As we celebrate Pentecost this year, I invite you to “feel the wind” of God’s Spirit in our congregation. Feel it in the joy of worship, in the sharing of bread and cup, in the prayers offered aloud and in silence. Feel it in hands that serve, voices that sing, hearts that care deeply for one another and for our wider community. Feel it in new ideas stirring, in old wounds healing, in hope finding fresh voice.
The Church is not a building or a program; it is a living, breathing body shaped by the Spirit of God. Pentecost reminds us that we were never meant to be stagnant or still. We were born of movement—of holy wind and holy fire—and we are continually being renewed by that same Spirit.
May this Pentecost be more than a memory of long ago. May it be an experience of here and now. May we open ourselves again to the Spirit’s leading, trusting that God is still at work among us, still calling the Church into being, still whispering (and sometimes roaring) words of grace, courage, and love.
Come, Holy Spirit. Move among us. And may we feel the wind together.
Blessings,
Pastor Kirk
